I started this blog about 10 months ago, and pretty quickly became obsessed with getting a post up on Scary Mommy. Every few weeks I would get the courage up to send something in to them, and then wait, with knots in my stomach, for the email from Samantha that would always show up a few days later informing me, “it just isn’t a good fit,” but urging me to keep trying. Well I did, until I just couldn’t take the rejections any more. And then one of my favorite bloggers, also named Emily (master puppeteer of The Waiting), suggested I send a specific post in. She is smart and funny, so I swallowed the lump in my throat and submitted it, fully prepared to open and delete the rejection email as soon as it arrived in my gmail box. Imagine my surprise when I got something back stating they “liked it” and “wanted to run it.”
Today is the day. My post has gone live, and feel like standing on the roof tops and yelling: “Never give up!” and also “Does anybody want to make me cinnamon rolls to celebrate?”
So here’s your friendly reminder, friends. Never give up. You never know what tomorrow may bring.
Here’s my post, if you want to check it out. It has already run on this site, but if you didn’t catch it the first time, I hope you like it. And if you don’t? Well at least Samantha did.
Congratulations! That’s so exciting!

Congratulations!! That is beyond awesome – you must be SO excited. Life goals, people. You’re an inspiration, my friend! I’m a little envious of your writing ability, and of you having the cojones to submit your work. I need to build up a little more courage, I think.

wonderful!!!! I love Scary Mommy, and have never had the guts to submit anything. My plan is more of the “one day I will wake up and have 10,000 followers, aaaaaaaannnnnnyyyy day now……..” I’m glad you didn’t give up, eat at least 2 cinnamon rolls!!

You and me both, girl. Also, if it isn’t asking too much, maybe at least a few thousand of them could be real followers, and not all these random weird followers that I’m pretty sure are spam. I hope you get the guts up too! And I hope you get in with far less rejections that me. 🙂

Wow, thanks! Scary Mommy is awesome because they pay, but I hardly pulled in any views from it, and literally got zero new followers on my Facebook page from it. I recently was published on Pregnant Chicken, however, which proved to be much more beneficial from a blogging standpoint, even though they don’t pay. My guess is if you publish something on Scary Mommy that really makes people think or feel (especially if you piss ’em off), you will get more views because people will go to your site to see what kind of a person would post something that made them feel so passionately (good or bad). This is just my guess, but after getting another piece published on a different site that made people really, really mad, I got more views than I’ve ever had. Who knows how to crack the code, but either way, I’m happy for any opportunity I get! Thanks for stopping by, and for your kind words.
